Pembroke Observer Ratifies
Last Sun Media Settlement Completes Round of '09-'10
CEP 87-M's five-member newsroom at the Pembroke Observer has ratified a three-year contract, successfully concluding an historic first attempt at coordinated bargaining among Sun Media members at Ontario's largest media union.
Like the other eight 87M Sun Media units that coordinated bargaining over the implementation of Quebecor's new cafeteria-style benefits plan, called "Flex Media," the Pembroke unit negotiated a cost sharing formula for future premium increases. The Observer journalists will also join the Sun Media pension plan for unionized staff.
